Michigan Bound

Braylen and I will be heading to Michigan the week of 2-9. I am negiotiating with work to stay for 2 weeks, but they orginally only wanted me up there for meetings for 1 week. Best case we get 2 weeks, worst (which is still better then nothing) we get 1 week.

I can say that Braylen is going to be so ecstatic because he is so homesick (as I am too) right now. Daddy isn’t too happy because he doesn’t want us away from him, but he knows that it will make me and Braylen very happy and help with our homesickness.

Braylen can’t wait to meet Bree, see Abby and Jordan, and give tons of hugs to Grandma, Grandpa, Aunt Jen, Aunt Angie (though he may ask alot of questions about where Bree came from) and Uncle Tootles.

Winter Warning 2008 … The city is shutting down!

Oh my gosh … Stock up on bread, milk, butter and eggs because a day stuck in the house without french toast would be devastating.

Okay, let me explain. Atlanta hs snow. Yes, snow. Well, a dusting but the city has started to shut down. Seriously. I was told by numerous people today to go stock up on the above grocery items. Traffic is crawling and the news is all about how much snow is on the ground and the announcement of all the school closings planned for tommorow. Don’t believe me when I tell you we have snow, check out the pictures, but don’t laugh. Southern folks get all freaked out about this.

“All the people from Michigan and Montana…you probably think we are a bunch of pansies, but we don’t know how to drive in this” Direct comment from the anchor on the news.

Look at the ground in this picture… It’s not even sticking to the cement…….

Now here’s a picture of the last Michigan snow I was in back in December. It didn’t stop anyone from still traveling out that day.

Watching Braylen and Abby Grow!

Now that Braylen is living in Georgia, Abby is one depressed puppy. Well, okay, Abby is no longer a puppy, but she is definitely missing her best buddy.

Jenn officially adopted Abigail Merlot Fabirkiewicz on September 25, 2005. She was approximately 12 weeks old, so Jenn decided that July 3, 2005 would be her designated date of birth. Braylen was just one year and three days old when Abby was born.

From the moment Braylen and Abby first met, they became insist friends. However, Abby’s affection for Braylen was a little painful at first, because she would nip at his feet and hands with her very sharp little puppy teeth. We were all very grateful when those puppy teeth fell out, especially Braylen!!

From that point on, boy and puppy became inseparable. They romped and tussled and ran, AND RAN together!!! At times it was hard to tell where one ended and the other began!! When Braylen entered the house, Abby ran to greet him and pretty much licked his entire face, sometimes knocking him over! When Braylen would go down for a nap, Abby would curl up in Grandpa’s chair to take her nap, too. It took both Grandpa and me to take a walk with Braylen and Abby because they were so fast!!

Now they are hundreds of miles apart, and I’m sure Abby listens every morning for Braylen to walk in the door. She pretty much sulks from the time Jenn leaves for work, curled up in a ball, until Jenn gets home again. I know Abby will be thrilled beyond amazement when Braylen returns for visits and we just may have to travel to Georgia, at least once, with Abby, so she can check out Braylen’s new home.

The first two pictures are of Braylen and Abby in October 2005. The third was taken this past summer and the last one was taken the day Braylen left for Georgia.

Right now Abby has Jordan coming every morning, so she plays some with her, and she also played with Nigel during his visit, but its just not the same as her best buddy Braylen.

Lost Dogs

So yesterday I come home from work and decide to take Braylen outside to play for a little bit. Soon after stepping outside I see a stray dog coming right for me. I whistle for it to come to me as it quickly comes to me feet and lays down. The dog appears to be in very good health and is very friendly. So as I try to figure out what to do about this dog, I see a man trying to walk his small dog across the street as another dog is trailing them. So I ask the man if he knows who the dog following him belongs to and he says no. So as I get closer to him I notice that both the dog following him and the dog at my feet look very similar. So I call for the other dog to come to me and like the other he is very friendly but is missing one of his eyes.

While all of this is going on Braylen is sitting in my car watching all of this go on and like normal is asking all kinds of questions. So Jodi and I give the dogs some treats and dog food, as I make some calls to find a place for them to go. With little luck on the phone I move the two dogs to the back deck as we give them some water and I spend some time playing with them.

Now Braylen is sitting in the window staring at the dogs and is crying that he wants dogs like that. He says with tears coming down his face “When Fudge goes back to the pet store, I want two dogs like those”. To calm him down Jodi lets Braylen toss a couple of treats out the door to give to them.

After making a few more calls Jodi finds a animal hospital in Duluth (just down the street from my apartment) that has agreed to take the dogs in for the night until we can figure out what to do. So I load up the dogs into my car and drive them 20 minutes and drop them off at the vet.

Jodi decides to make some posts on a couple of sites listing the lost dogs as she come across a posting of someone who is looking for two dogs that very closely match these two dogs. It would take a long time to explain each dog but with the information we have Jodi and I are pretty sure these are the two dogs that have been missing since 12/01/2007. So Jodi has sent them an email and we are going to see what happens today.

At lunch time I am going to pick them up and take them to the county pound which does not put dogs down and hopefully we can contact the owners and have a happy ending. I will keep everyone posted.

PLEASE PLACE UPDATES HERE!!!!!!!

First off I want to say that the Fabs of the South really enjoyed seeing everyone this past Holiday. More importantly Braylen had a wonderful time playing with his cousins. Now that we are down here I think it is that much more important to have a place to go to stay connected with the family. Jodi and I check on this site all the time and if Braylen knew there were pictures here he could look at I’m sure he would be asking all the time.

I know that I hesistate sometimes posting things such as whats going on with Braylen more because I don’t want to be one of those parents that everytime I say something it starts out…..My son….. I’ve worked with some people who were like that and after awhile you want to say ENOUGH already about your son. So I try to keep that in mind.

With that said I want to hear about how everyone is doing especially my little nieces and nephews. So I challenge everyone to post more often so we can see everyone’s progress and successes. Scott does a great job with this on his own blog page as I go there also very often to not only hear about Nigel, but about everything in Pennsylvania and its happenings.

Lets all make this part of that New Years Resolution!!!!! Maybe this is one that we can all keep being that there is no calorie counting or exercise involved!!! :)
