Day 2 of the head pain hospital

Yep, we have internet access in the hospital. Who would have thought!

Today is my second full day, I arrived on Thursday night. So far, all is well. This headache center has a good process and I feel like I will leave with my head pain under control or gone. They expect me to be here 10-12 days.

Every morning you meet with a team of doctors and they round table what your care should be, the next step and any change in meds. It’s actually pretty neat. The nurses are on top of you each day as to how you feel. Here’s the nice part, you are not confined to your room, and actually, they want you to walk outside or visit with others in the ward. You are responsible for getting your own linens and towels, you have to get your own food and eat in the dining room and there are different activities each day as well as support groups you go to. They even have a laundry mat for us to do our laundry.

I am only 2 days in, but am really hopefull they will be able to help me.

New Look For Kitchen

Recently Rich and I decided to do something more uplifting to our kitchen besides just peel wallpaper and paint. It was time to do something with our 52 year old cabinets. In the 39 years we have lived here, Rich has twice striped and refinished the cabinets and wasn’t about to do that again. We thought about replacing everything with new, but I saw no reason to change the sink and counter because they are in great shape and only 20 years old. Besides, after having the bathroom gutted three years ago, a complete makeover just did not appeal to me. We decided to have the cabinets refaced and get new doors, drawers and hardware, and that is exactly what we did.

We got an estimate earlier in the year from a company here in Center Line, but felt it was too high and we were offered a “lower price” if we acted immediately. We didn’t much care for this company’s options. We finally went through Home Depot which gave us a much better price, and once all our custom-sized doors and drawers were made, the actual work was completed in three days. We also replaced the almond appliances with white. We love our new look in the kitchen, which now displays my new Polish Stoneware collection much better, and Rich is thrilled because he will never, ever have to sand those cabinets again, and also all the wallpaper is gone. Well, I did talk him into a border on the soffit! All that is left to do is replace the dishwasher. It’s still running well enough for now, so we’ll wait awhile before getting a new one. Click on the pictures below to see the results.

Michigan here we come

In just a few days, Bresden will be the newest Fab to fly on a plane. Braylen, Bresden ,and myself are flying into Detroit on Saturday so I can be admitted to a hospital in Chelsea to “try” to get rid of the 9 week headache. I think Braylen is more excited to see family and friends then to fly on the plane, so it should make for a fun plan trip. His excitement will probably take my mind off my headache. Although, the baby or the flight could make it worse….which I hope neither happens.

And to all the family members that have sent cards and/or well wishes, I just want to say thank you. I’m sorry if I have lacked in responding, but having a headache 24/7 for 9 weeks now has just zapped me. And with all the weekly doctor appts, I loose track of days anymore.

We’d love to see everyone while we are in town.

Off We Go In Nine Days

On Sept 25 we fly out of Detroit for Denver. From Denver we board the California Zephyr and ride the rails thru the Rockies to Grand Junction Utah. We then start a circle that will take us thru several National Parks in and around Moab Utah. In the morning we are off to Monument Valley, where many of the old John Wayne Westerns were filmed, we also visit a few other parks in the area befor arriving at Torret Utah for the night. Day six we visit Bryce Canyon, we will spend two nights in Mount Carmel Utah, the next day we tour Zion National Park. Next we will be off to The Grand Canyon for two days, the last day we rid aboard the Grand Canyon Railway. Day ten we board another train, the Verde Canyon Railroad which will take us to Winslow Arizona for the night. The following morning we board the Southwes Chief which will take us to Trinidad Arizona for the night. From there we board a motor coach for the ride back to Denver to fly home.
I think I will need a vacation when we get home. I have always wanted to see these places and Mary was watching a show on the Travel Chanel about train trips and we went from there and fornd this trip. The days are full we just were sent hour by hour plans for the days and some of them we must check out by 6;00 AM. I am sure Mary will be sending out a hilight slide show when we return.

Finally, We Have Concrete Again!

Most of the Fab Family probably remembers coming to our house last year for Christmas and driving over a very lumpy mound of sand and gravel in the location of our former driveway approach. This was the result of a water main break earlier in December. At that time, we were informed that the city of Center Line would replace the removed concrete in the spring. We weren’t very pleased with the thought of having mud to deal with when it snowed, but there wasn’t much that could be done. The temperature must be over 50 degrees for at least a week in order to pour the concrete.

Okay, well winter turned to spring, then spring turned to summer. Center Line finally signed a contract with the company that would be replacing concrete throughout the city. Then on August 6, the trucks, equipment, and crew members rolled in to get the job done. We also had an extension of concrete poured between our driveway and the neighbor’s house to eliminate the muddy mess during inclement weather where the lawn had worn away. The best part of finally having the new approach was eliminating the “lake” we always had in the lower driveway every time it rained, and now the sand and gravel are gone as well.

Picture of the boys

With the state of my health, an the fact that I can’t be on the computer much, I never got around to posting a picture of the kids. Here’s a picture of the boys from when the baby was a month old and Braylen just turned 4. Thought I would share since I never was able to get announcements out. (I get sick before I could get them done)
